Type IIa familial hypercholesterolemia is characterized by, especially, increased level of LDL which is common type and normal level...

Following the wide availability of insulin and intensification of diabetic control, this entity has become quite rare. A 9-year-old female child was transferred to pediatric OPD of SNUCH because of hyperglycemia, short stature, and visual disturbance. Five years prior to admission, she...

Clin Exp Pediatr. 1995;38(7):963-969.   Published online July 15, 1995
Purpose : Sex hormone binding globulin(SHBG) is produced in liver and binds to testostero-ne and estradiol. Plasma SHBG levels are increased by estrogen and thyrotoxicosis and decreased by testostrone, insulin, growth hormone, prolactin, obesity and noninsulin dependent diabetes mellitus. SHBG levels in patients with NIDDM is known to be higher than normal, but SHBG levels in children with IDDM is controversial....

Clin Exp Pediatr. 1995;38(2):280-284.   Published online February 15, 1995
Iron overload from repeated blood transfusions in patients with hematologic problems is a problem of clinical significance, because eventually it can lead to secondary hemochromatosis with diabetes. So it is important to diagnose iron overload early and to restrict blood transfusions in these patients. Recently, we experienced one case of secondary hemochromatosis with diabetes in patient wi th congenital pure red...

Bodycomposition measurement is useful in the diagnosis of pathoogy, assessment of disease process and response to treatment in many endoclonologic and metabolic diseases. The Techniques used currently are mostly indirect, often expensive, difficult and time-consuming. A new method for estimation of body composition, infrared interactance, is rapid, safe, noninvasive, and may be useful in research ad clinical studies. Body composition was...

A case of transient diabetes mellitus and diabetic ketoacidosis induced by L-asparaginase and prednisolone administration in a patient with relapsed acute lymphocytic leukemia.
Won Kyu Choi, Mee Kyung Namgoong, Har Yong Lee, Hwang Min Kim, Jong Soo Kim
Clin Exp Pediatr. 1991;34(9):1316-1322.   Published online September 30, 1991
L-asparaginase is known as an effective anticancer drug in the induction chemotherapy of acute lymphocytic leukemia. The side effects or toxicities of L-asparaginase and prednisolone are hypersen- sitivity reaction, hepatotoxicity, pancreatitis and transient diabetes mellitus, CNS toxicity, disorder of coagulation system and mild cytotoxicity. We experienced a case of transient diabetes mellitus and diabetic ketoacidosis induced by L- asparaginase, prednisolone, vincristine and MTX administration in...

Clin Exp Pediatr. 1991;34(1):144-147.   Published online January 31, 1991
The authors experienced a case of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus with hypothyroidism. We report this case with a review of related literatures.

The injection of streptozotocin (STZ) at higher dose (60 mg/kg) to young male rats produce direct beta cell destruction and lead to insulin dependent diabetes (IDD). In contrast, the injection of multiple smaller dose of STZ (40 mg/kg/d for 5 days) produce IDD, which resembles type 1 diabetes in man. The protective effect of pertussis vaccine (PV) & cyclosporin (CA) against the develoment...
